Acquisition of Personal Data
Here, please find the details on the cases in which we acquire customers’ data.
When customers enter personal data by operating a terminal
Yahoo! JAPAN acquires personal data when the customers enter the data in the smartphones and PCs and the entered data is transmitted to Yahoo! JAPAN when the customers tap/click "send" or "register" button.

The best examples of this case are as follows:
- When customers enter information for Yahoo! JAPAN ID registration and submit the information to Yahoo! JAPAN;
- When customers cooperate in our surveys; and
- When customers transmit voice data through the use of services that require voice input, such as voice search (transmitted voice data will be stored with a random identifier that does not identify the customer, and will be separated from the identifier after 180 days).
When personal data is provided by customers directly or through media such as documents, etc.
The best example of this case is when identity verification documents are sent to us. Customers directly send in documents with personal data such as identity verification documents to Yahoo! JAPAN, and Yahoo! JAPAN acquires personal data through the receipt of such documents.
When the personal data is automatically sent when the customers use or browse Services
Yahoo! JAPAN acquires personal data transmitted when customers use or browse our Services*2.

The best examples of this case are as follows:
- When Yahoo! JAPAN acquires the IP addresses transmitted as a result of accesses to Yahoo! JAPAN's webpages;
- When Yahoo! JAPAN acquires the search keywords entered as a result of the usage of Yahoo! JAPAN's search function;
- When Yahoo! JAPAN acquires the purchase history of Yahoo! JAPAN's shopping services;
- When Yahoo! JAPAN acquires the location information of the terminal in which "Yahoo! JAPAN Disaster Alert," "Yahoo! JAPAN Weather," "Yahoo! JAPAN MAP," etc. are installed, in order to notify disaster information according to the location of the terminal. (Only when the setting in the terminal used by the customer is activated to send the location information to Yahoo! JAPAN.); and
- When the webpage or app of Yahoo! JAPAN's advertisers or ad distribution destinations, etc. are used, and when Yahoo! JAPAN acquires information to identify the terminal used by the customer, etc. by referring to the cookies or terminal information through Yahoo! JAPAN's web beacons (Japanese only), etc. installed in the webpages or apps of these partners.
*2 Services, products, advertisements or contents are hereinafter collectively referred to as "Services." However, Services include services, products, advertisements or content towards partners and customers other than the customer him/herself.
When the personal data is acquired from third parties
In some cases, Yahoo! JAPAN acquires personal data when Yahoo! JAPAN receives information acquired by third parties.

The best example of this case is when Yahoo! JAPAN provides services in collaboration with third parties in order to provide more convenient and attractive services to our customers. In these collaborations, there are times when coordination of information is needed with these third parties, and Yahoo! JAPAN receives information from these third parties for this purpose. (Whether or not information is coordinated or the details of information to be coordinated differ by individual service coordination.)
When receiving personal information from third parties, Yahoo! JAPAN conducts appropriate measures such as complying with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.
When the personal data is temporarily acquired in the terminal used by the customer to use our Services
In some cases, Yahoo! JAPAN temporarily acquires personal data in the terminal used by the customer when the customer uses our Services.

The best example of this case is the following:
・When Yahoo! JAPAN acquires information on the shape of faces in conjunction with the use of the virtual fitting function in PayPay Mall. (Yahoo! JAPAN uses the TrueDepth camera function provided by Apple Inc. to acquire information on the shape of faces, and this is only for the provision of the virtual fitting function. The information acquired will not be stored in servers or will not be provided to third parties.
When the personal data is automatically sent according to the customers’ use or browsing of our Services
In some cases, third parties acquire the personal data transmitted when customers use or browse our Services.

Data storage
